Merlin Came To Visit

Merlin cameup to my door

I didn'tknow his name

He waswandering along the road

He wasfriendly and quite tame

Just alittle puppy

with hiscute beagley eyes

So when hearrived at my door

Well I wasrather surprised

I had seenhim around the neighbourhood

So I knewthat he was local

He stoodthere looking up at me

Quiet and not vocal

"Youhad better come in doggy" I said

We don'twant you on the road

You may getyourself run over

You naughtylittle toad

Well he cameinto the house

And I puthim in the yard

But doggywas not happy

And it waskinda hard

To watch himas he ran around

In captivity

This doggywanted to be out!

He wanted tobe free

I knew thathe was pining so

I let him inthe house

I expectedhim to sit right down

As quiet asa mouse

But doggy hehad other ideas

As he leaptabout the place

Jumping onthe furniture

You shouldhave seen my face

I tried totell him sit and stay

But he washaving none of it

He was veryexcited and having fun

While I washaving a fit

That's it Isaid outside you go

And waitthere for your mum

And though Ithought him rather cute

Well I wasjust about done

With all hisdoggy antics

As cute ashe may be

This littledoggy was spirited

And morethan a match for me

I met hislovely parents

And theytook wee Merlin home

So now Ihave a number

And I knowjust who to phone

If everMerlin should call again

I'll knowjust what to do

Believe me Iwon't hesitate

I'll becalling you!

A Day At The Beach

The Bank Statement

I'm reconcilling my bank statement
but it's not working out at all
no matter how I look at it
the figures won't play ball

I know it's pretty simple
but the solution doesn't come
my head's a little foggy now
and I wish it was all done

This accounting programme is challenging me
must be time to take a break
not only does my head feel fuzzy
but now it is starting to ache

I'll take time out for coffee
hope my brain will kick into gear
if that doesn't do the trick
you are gonna hear me swear

It annoys me when I know it's simple
and I know I can work through it
but at the moment I am stumped
and you know I just can't do it

The coffee is now kicking in
my work will be completed
I applied myself and worked it through
and I was not defeated.

One Note Wonder

I have discovered one note
It's a really exciting new look
And discovering it started me thinking
About getting on with my book

It has all the tools I am needing
To organise files and such
I can copy paste and insert
And add the finishing touch

In the past I'll admit I've been tardy
Never quite got the right motivation
But One Note has got me excited
To start on my new innovation

So I'm looking for subjects to poem
Life is teaming with ideas to create
The poems I write may amuse you
When's the book due?
I'll have to leave that up to fate.

Meatballs For Dinner Tonight

I’m cooking meatballs
Meatballs for dinner tonight
I’ll make up a sauce with tomatoes and mushrooms
It will be a tasty delight

I’ll season the meatballs and fry them
Till they turn a golden hue
Cut onions, mushrooms, and mix them
Toss these together too

And then a tin of tomatoes
The basis of the sauce
I’ll introduce tomato paste
Which will help to reinforce

That tangy tomato flavour
Just the thing for a cold winter’s night
I can smell the intoxicating aroma
In my nostrils as I write

I’ll add a dash of fresh pepper
To enliven and spice up the dish
And maybe a little chopped parsley
Sprinkled over the top with a swish

A sprig or two of Rosemary
Will ensure it tastes superb
I have it growing in a pot
This bright and shiny herb

I’ll place the meatballs in the sauce
In the oven on 350 degrees
And when the flavours have seeped right through
I may add a sprinkling of cheese

My mouth has started watering
To the kitchen I’ll have to dart
Time to make my recipe real
Cause food is close to my heart

Goldilocks Came Calling

Goldilocks came calling
As quiet as a mouse
She broke into and raided
Someone else’s house

She went in through an unlocked door
And ate food from the fridge
Then plied herself with alcohol
Losing her bearings just a smidge

She went into the bedroom
Trying on the homeowners clothes
Then feeling a little tired
And trying to forget her woes

She jumped into her victims bed
And promptly fell asleep
The homeowner found her there
Though she hadn’t made a peep

Police were called she was arrested
But much to their displeasure
She’d left her mark upon the bed
Soiling for good measure

We hope she is disgusted
And will get her due comeuppance
Although I fear her bold as brass
She probably doesn’t give tuppence

This lady’s age is thirty nine
She’s not a child of two
And if she happens to be your daughter
Well I feel sorry for You.

Sarah Ferguson

I used to admire Fergie
A unique and colourful royal
But her morals are somewhat dubious
Her behaviour anything but loyal

For who would sell their beloved’s soul
To the public for a measly mil
The betrayal of Prince Andrew
Will make the queen feel ill

Sarah’s been caught red handed
Publicly hum-ili-ated
The money was appealing
The deal left her elated

Her excitement quickly ebbed away
When the reporter showed his hand
And Sarah’s radiance faded
As she began to understand

What a catastrophic blunder
To make, caught on TV.
A raw and exploitive tactic
For all the world to see

The royal family now have a problem
What to do at the end of the day
Do they let her reside where she’s living
Or pack her up and send her away?

Both Beatrice and Eugene
Better be made of stronger stuff
As the daughter’s of Sara Ferguson
Its going to be pretty rough.

you are so divine!
Angelica Angelica
Won’t you please be mine?

I planted you a year ago
But you refused to grow!
What’s the gen, "what’s wrong with you”
I’d really like to know!

I thought you’d like a shaded spot
Sheltered from the cold
I imagined that you’d grow for me
Shiny, green and bold.

But you just sat there loafing!
Sitting still and quiet,
When springtime came around I thought
You need a better diet.

So I have now removed you
And put you in the sun,
I’ve planted you beside the parsley
So you both can have some fun.

I consulted with my herbal books
Of which I own just four
The first one said “plant in partial shade”
And that’s where you were before!

The second said “plant in shade or sun”
In the other two, there was no mention!
So I will leave you in the sun
At least, that’s my intention.

I’ve given you wormy water
It’s an organic tonic you know!
And now well I am hoping
You’ll get on with it and “grow”

I hope beside the parsley
You’ll thrive majestically!
But if you don’t then I will choose
A new plant Rose-ma-ry.

Procrastination

It’s a good idea
Has it been done before?

Could I do it some more?

Let me ponder
Just think it through

The idea grips me

would put it into practice
If it weren’t for procrastination

If I could just be sure

the outcome of my project
would definitely turn out!

The Headache

I have a nasty headache
Located in my head
I should really take a pill for it
But I’m suffering instead

Why has my head attacked me
I woke up with it this morn
And my head is feeling spacey
Definitely not the norm

Well two more days have passed now
And the reason has become quite plain
My nose is running and I’m coughing as well
This cold is a bit of a pain

I need to be better by Saturday
Cause I’ve got a gig you see
And I can’t be coughing and spluttering
It’s not a professional way to be

So I’m dosing myself with lemon
And trying to keep nice and warm
Resting as much as I can
So that I’m back on form

Why has this cold attacked me
It’s a real pain in the arse
I guess if I play my cards right
It will quickly pass.

The Scoundrels Have Nicked My Feijoa

We've all done it as kids haven't we, grabbed fruit off the neighbours property as we walk past. After all they have a whole big tree of fruit to themselves don't they? Well not in my case. The Feijoa tree I'm writing about was growing on the property when we bought it about 8 years ago. It was planted next to the drive in a rather silly place and fair game I hear some of you say but wait.........there's more.

My Hubby wanted to chop it down and I wanted it to stay. I have never had a feijoa tree that has matured and produced fruit. The tree did look a bit scraggly I have to admit and hubby took the chainsaw to it, thinking this would be the end, but the tree had other ideas. It started to grow and I was delighted. Hubby threw the cold ashes from the fire around the base of the tree, thinking that the corner in which it was growing was a rubbish site. But you know that tree grew lots of lovely new leaves and branches and when I checked it for fruit there were about a dozen small fruit growing there. Imagine my excitement! Now there was one particularly large fruit that I was particularly excited about and waiting for it to ripen and well you guessed it................

Somebody Stole My Feijoa

Somebody stole my feijoa
It was growing on the tree
It was big and bold and beautiful
And ripening just for me

The tree is in an awkward spot
Right beside the drive
And after giving it a massive prune
The tree began to thrive

The fruit were hanging lusciously
Tempting and delicious
But the neighbourhood kids had hatched a plan
That was naughty and malicious

We saw them eying up the tree
And run off with some fruit
So hubby ran out after them
Scolding them to boot

They apologised sincerely
With manners so polite
But what do you know, they came back
And pinched some in the night

My lovely big fejoa
I was waiting till it was ripe
I left it to grow and ripen
Not for them to swipe

I can only hope it was bitter
And gave them a bellyache
So that they learn a lesson
Ask before you take!

Lost The Sock & The Plot!

Fisher & Paykel hit the nail on the head with their ad recently or did they really. The one thing I remember about the ad is, Yep you guessed it. Where do all those socks really go? It is obviously a universal issue or Fisher & Paykel wouldn't have used it in their tv advertising. I contemplated this issue and came up with the following.

Where Do All The Good Socks Go?
I went to do the washing
just the other day
as I scrabbled through the basket
I heard a voice inside me say

Where has the other sock gone?
You see I hang them out in pairs
I rummaged through the basket
Picked up my husbands flares

I searched inside the leg
as I so often do
The sock alas was missing
Gone! I mean shot through

But wait! there's something hiding
underneath his underpants
And it's made of black material
But no, it's just me scants

I decided to hang out all the socks
So I could eliminate
Those ones that, just don't look right
Then find the perfect mate

I found an extremely long one
then one extremely short
How do they dissapear
Is it some kind of sport

Perhaps they are in sock heaven
laughing from above
Or in another basket
mingling with a ladylove

I could employ a sniffer dog
that may solve the situation
In fact the more I think of it
It could solve this operation.

must enjoy sniffing gross manky socks
must be able to recognise odd socks and place into pairs
Good Renumeration in doggy biscuits to the hound with excellent abilities.

Library Matters

Well submissions have now closed regarding the new charges to be placed on library books and users. Over 700 submissions were received so what will the outcome be? is any body's guess. I remember a time at least 15 to 20years ago, we were living in the country at that time and the council in their wisdom, decided that rural people should pay an annual charge to use the library.
There was of course a public outcry, with many letters written to the council and in the end the submission didn't go ahead. I do hope that we have a similar outcome this time, however I feel that our councilors are quite thick skinned and pretty determined to do what they want.

Of course it's a question of money, but couldn't they leave their wages at the same level and maybe go without a few perks? after all in the real world we have to. Well of course it goes without saying there is a poem to mark the occasion.

Library Charges
The council is increasing the fees
You see, they can do as they please
This is just the first step
They'll break us down with some prep
As they sock it to us with ease

They think we have money to burn
Out of touch, that it's so hard to earn
It is bound to cause friction
When they charge for non-fiction
Impairing our chances to learn

And did I forget to mention
Those poor folks who live on the pension
For them reading's a pleasure
A gift they all treasure
And this charge is causing some tension

We know this is only the start
The free library is falling apart
They will charge us a heap
For the library upkeep
Those councillors don't have a heart

Education is out of our league
The library is suffering fatigue
Leaking money like water
It really shouldn't oughter
Or is just the councillors greed

So councillors think long and hard
Someone will be marking your card
When floating your boat
Remember the vote
You'll be out, without, any regard.
